SOUTH SURREY – A 37-year-old man has been charged following a frightening incident at Redwood Park that police say involved an assault, a vehicle collision and a victim being chased with a knife.
Surrey Police Service was called to Redwood Park near 179 Street and 20 Avenue at approximately 4:44 p.m. on September 9.
Police say the victim attempted to escape in a Ford pickup truck when the suspect drove a Jeep Wrangler into the vehicle.
The victim then got out and ran. Police allege the suspect brandished a knife and chased after him.
A nearby witness provided the victim with safety until Surrey Police officers arrived.
Officers took the suspect into custody without incident.
Richard Mark James Evoy, 37, has been charged by the BC Prosecution Service with assault with a weapon, assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, criminal harassment and uttering threats.
He was remanded in custody.
Police say they have already identified and spoken with witnesses but are asking anyone with information who has not yet spoken with investigators to contact Surrey Police Service at 604-599-0502 and reference file 26-96726 (SP).
The allegations have not been proven in court.
