LANGLEY, B.C. – Drivers heading to Langley for the annual Good Times Cruise-In are being warned that police will be stepping up enforcement against dangerous and unlawful driving around the event.
Langley RCMP says officers will conduct proactive enforcement leading up to and throughout Cruise-In weekend as thousands of visitors come to the community for the annual celebration of classic cars and fundraiser for local charities.
Police say previous years have seen illegal or unsanctioned car gatherings where drivers engaged in stunting and excessive speeding.
According to RCMP, those activities create risks for spectators, participants and other road users while also generating complaints from residents and drawing police resources away from other public-safety needs.
Police say enforcement around the event will include increased patrols in known gathering areas and traffic enforcement targeting dangerous driving and excessive noise.
Drivers could also face tickets, vehicle impoundments and other penalties under the Motor Vehicle Act where appropriate.
Inspector David Wise of Langley RCMP is urging people to stay away from unlawful driving activities so the Cruise-In can remain safe and enjoyable.
“If you choose to ignore this warning, you risk fines, having your vehicle impounded, and possible criminal charges,” Wise said.
Langley RCMP says it is working with event organizers and community partners as part of its enforcement and public-safety efforts.
